"Weird
Al" Yancovic is an American original. Love 'im or hate 'im,
he's a part of the pop culture landscape. And has been for decades
now.
Here
the man-with-a-word-play degree has created the one CD you need.
He selected 38 of his faves. He must have that "Every sperm
is sacred," motto; they do vary in greatness.
Some
will make you smile immediately like "Eat It," and,
" Another One Rides the Bus." Others will have you tilting
your head RCA dog-style in wonder - until you listen. Because
you will know you should have known, after you know you knew it,
as the parodies are almost as big as the real versions - and often
just as fun.
The
list of titles is weird wacky and wonderful. "The Night Santa
Went Crazy (extra gory version)" made me laugh out loud.
I had never heard that classic before.
Now,
there are not too many who will listen to all 2 1/2 hours of Al's
yelping in one sitting - frankly be wary of those who would -
but, this is a treasure trove of funny songs with wickedly clever
odes to big chart busters. Track 10, "eBay," I adored.
Admittedly another newbie, in a long list here, to my ear canal.
The title suggested Alfonso would be aiming at that feedback wielding
bastard putting down the little man. And who hasn't wanted an
eBay anthem by the likes anyone with air-play power? Let alone
The King of Snide-Yet-Oddly-Friendly Al? And here you hear Al
delicately manipulate language to stream a long awaited razzberry
at the Big Blue Meany corp. who took a world yard slae and, once
we were hooked implemented rues and money schemes, Ted Turner
would sigh at.
Yep,
the man is still as funny as his hair - but thankfully still hipper
than the Tiny Tim tap of his hat, err, hair-do, would lead you
to believe. It's the perfect gift for practically anyone, for
practically any occasion. Have you ever met any one who secretly
didn't guffaw at "I Lost on Jeopardy?" Right. The song
is here, and so are a half dozen you didn't even know were. There
are 38 of them. 38.
