How
to Lose a Guy in 10 Days
Starring: Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey
Directed by: Donald Petrie
Rated: PG-13
How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days is adorable and genuinely
funny! The teaming of mansteak Matthew McConaughey and second-generation
cutie pie Kate Hudson works like it's their fifth screwball
comedy together; they match beautifully.
The
story goes a successful ad man (Matthew McConaughey) wants to
be even more successful. But he has his eyes set on an ad account
that the big boss feels is better run by women. He connives
a scheme to prove his powers over women by getting one of the
creatures to fall in love with him in ten days - that's when
they pitch the big account. The idea being if he can get any
woman to fall in ten days he's worthy of running the ad campaign.
Meanwhile,
in a similar career driven motive, (Kate Hudson) the "How
To" columnists for a girly Cosmo-like mag gets looped into
an assignment on the mistakes women make in relationships; too
possessive, clingy, affectionate
etc.etc. She wants to
teach her readers how to lose a guy in 10 days if they
make the mistakes she does that is. It's to be a reverse psychology
article.
By
the magic of film and coincidences the two start dating and
the hilarity begins as they are pitted against each other their
secret motive of career advancements in mind. Remember his goal
is to get her so smitten she blurts out the dating death march.
He needs her to admit she loves him in a mere ten days. She
on the other hand, will sufficate every inch of his manhood
until he'll screams, "Go away! I've got a restraining order
you pycho stepford wife from hell" also within ten days.
Cupid
and his dastardly set of arrows has been spotted in Manhattan
though and there may just be a bit of old fashion romance mixed
into the bet! Ya think?
Of
course the visual appeal of Matthew McConaughey is a decidedly
magnetic draw
Face it! He's a manly little studmuffin extravaganza
waiting to be lightly heated in the microwave of lust - have
a dollop of butter spread all over him- then slowly devoured.
He's a purrfectly scrumptious Texan appetizer! See Frailty
for a pinch of Matt's darker side
Mz.
Hudson is just precious. She's a likable beauty just like her
mom. Unlike say, snooty not- fit- to- glance- her- way Elizabeth
Hurley, Kate seems approachable and cool. They have a scene
of the waif wolfing down a hamburger like a big burly truck
driver that'll make you giggle out loud. See that's what girls
do. Even tiny girls
with pinkies up of course. Kate knows
comedy - it must be in the DNA
It's
a screwball script well written, even if it's Quirky Romance
Film 101. Sometimes that's just what you need - silly giggles
at the movies. And thanks to a cast that embraces that silliness
and delivers each scene in a delightfully commitment way, How
to Lose a Guy in 10 Days is one of the cutest romantic comedies
I've ever seen! Enjoy.
