Robin of Sherwood: Set 1 [Blu-ray]
This is more
of a BluntReview.com announcement, than a review. This interpretation
of dear Robin is special, but alas, it’s been out for years.
But not like this…
See, Robin
of Sherwood is finally on Blu-ray. Those of us old enough recall
the kicking and screaming we went through when music was suddenly
CDs and not 12-inch round plastic discs (Vinyl) now feel the same
anguish. Blu-ray is film’s version of a major retooling.
And, for film enthusiasts, it's a horrible sting one feels as
a collection is nearing completion, and boom! A new fandangled
media is sprung upon you. And, Blu-ray is the next generation
of viewing experience one needs for their film collections. It's
a super viewing experience. Here, the irony is, even with the
modern mechanics, Robin of Sherwood can feel a tad dated
due to its obvious 80s leanings…
Everyone knows
the tale: Robin of Sherwood is very much beloved by the Saxons
of the land. He taketh from the rich and bestow upon the poor.
While the evil sheriff and maid Marion mesh about in the layers
with our hero. This version was filmed entirely on location in
England’s most mystical-looking hamlets – careful
to avoid filming telephone lines, and highway bends in the distance.
Medieval times
spring to life as cunning plot twists, mixed with some sorcery
and mysticism reap social justice of-the-times. There’s
a strong bit of a King Arthur feel, as I’d say just about
everyone intertwines the legends. A genial campy score that would
make John Debney wince and a general earlier TV feel make this
a super fun nostalgic romp through familiar territory.
And, with
this new release, the 1980’s British series comes all gussied
up with remastering for high definition viewing. And you’ll
want that as Robin, aka Michael Praed, is rather swell on the
eyes – even while sporting the flowing locks of the era!
Just letting
you all know the Blu-ray is here! The Blu-ray is here!
