Star
Wars Trilogy in 30 Minutes

The
title says it all. This unbelievably clever hootenanny delivers
the trilogy of Star Wars features in a mere thirty minutes. After
tremendous success at Edinburgh famous Fringe Fest in 1999, writer/director
Patrick T. Gorman, brought the winning parody to Los Angeles.
The
cast of a delightful dozen bullet out key dialog narrowing in
on the only the most important of details from the three feature
films, all while they volley between multiple roles at warp speed.
The
props border on the ludicrous; R2D2 is a trash can, space crafts
are metal chairs with pretty holiday lights glued on the feet
for the optical illusion of laser portals and the deadly light
sabers are department store whiffle-ball bats! Brilliant.
Frankly
if the performers were not as talented as they are SW30 could
be a tad harrowing - even at thirty minutes. But it works and
you'll want to see it twice because you've laughed so hard the
first time - and they speak so gosh darn fast - you'll miss a
few clever quips.
Steve
Josephson who portrays C-3P0 (carrying that "trash can"
friend), Grand Moff Tarkin and Yoda, leaps and bounds about switching
voices with a blink. Scott Walker Mullin, who serves up Darth
Vader and Chewbacca will have you begging for mercy while you
try to catch your breath. Mark Kelly portrays his Han Solo role
like Harrison Ford - in Raiders of the Lost Ark - meets GQ male
model Zoolander. When Michael Cornacchia comes out in a diaper
as Jabba the Hutt the place simultaneously erupts! And Maia Peters
is just fantastic as she exudes "bitchy" as bullshe
space tart Princess Leia. Howard D. William Yates, as Lando Calrissian,
too brings a imitation exaggeration to the stage- just hilarious.
And Luke Skywalker, played by James Snyder, is so popstar gosh
golly tears will deluge down your face from laughter.
SW30
is a wildly successful show that has repeat audience members as
in love with these space cadets as Lucas' series. People familiar
with the Trilogy will obviously get way more out of the warp speed
parody, but truly those who dig comedy done well should fork out
the dough too. Bluntly speaking: Do yourself a favor, see this.
